International Student
Week 2024 in Oslo

Visualizing Sustainability in Oslo
During the digital pre-meeting, participants met their groups and selected one of three sustainability-related topics (waste reduction in hygienic products, traces of the fishing industry in oceans and reducing oceanic waste), as well as receiving an introduction to the week’s structure. The in-person agenda in Oslo comprised a daily mix of lectures followed by tutored group work. Throughout the week, participants practiced and applied different Systemic Design methods, including Soft Systems Modeling (SSM) approaches, while developing intervention ideas connected to their chosen topics.
Through feedback rounds, discussions and mapping exercises, participants worked on their projects and reflected on how Systemic Design methods can be applied in practice. Alongside the formal sessions, the week included informal social and cultural activities that encouraged exchange between participants and tutors, like a hike, a typical Norwegian meal and a sauna session on the Oslo fjord.
The week concluded with group presentations and a final digital wrap-up session focused on reflecting on the overall learning experience and the methods explored.
